Our vice president was out in his Mercedes Benz late the other day. It started to get dark and he had to use his headlights for the first time since he had bought the car. He struggled with switches on the dash until eventually, he had to pull over and retrieve the owner's manual from the glove box to find out where the blasted light switch was!

2007 Combined Council Rally Report
Contributed by: John Pritchard - President

I am pleased to announce that this year's rally was a resounding success. Attendance numbers were a little down compared to past years which means that we probably over catered a little. Naturally, there were no complaints about the fresh daily tucker or the facilities.

Saturday began pretty darn cold, especially for those who arrived early. Luckily the sun came out soon and stayed out for the rest of the weekend invigorating us with nothing less than perfect weather for the rest of the weekend. After all had arrived, registered, received their bag of goodies and program, we took off for a short scenic rally before assembling in our vehicles at the showgrounds to entertain the masses as part of the Caboolture Show Grande Parade. This was followed by a just as grand lunch, then off to the nearby Historical Village to complete a questionnaire and have an afternoon tea that couldn't be beat. The Historical Village was unusually deserted on this particular afternoon due to the Caboolture Show occurring the same weekend, but it was none the less an enjoyable afternoon for all. Some of us even enjoyed a couple of afternoon lagers at the historic hotel with afternoon tea. We all departed company around 3.30pm to meet up again for dinner later in the evening.

Dinner on Saturday was at the local Bowls Club beside Centenary Lakes . Even the hardest nosed sceptics were not disappointed with the dinner and dessert. We had all eaten so well that hardly anyone took up the kind offer of seconds. After dessert, the CHACC Treasurer, Julie, and I announced the winners of the prizes for the day and outlined the timetable for Sunday's events. With all the formalities out if the way, the band returned to the stage to play us more popular songs from last century. They should be congratulated on their performance which pleased even the most discerning musical ear.

Sunday arrived and we all assembled for a leisurely 240km scenic drive around the western side of the Glasshouse Mountains, stopping at Beerwah State School, where the P&C committee had put on the most wonderful morning tea I've ever seen! Wow, we were all gob smacked by the abundance and variety of homemade goodies on offer. They truly deserved the three cheers and round of applause we gave them.

Pretty soon we were all behind the wheel again and making our way up a twisty road to Kenilworth where we stopped at the pub for more great food and naturally, the obligatory drop of local amber fluids. From there we each departed for the afternoon to work up an appetite for dinner later in the evening. Some even stopped off at the local cheese factory for massive locally made ice creams.

The Presentation Dinner on Sunday night was at the Caboolture Golf Club. What can I say, more great food, commendable service and more serenades from the same great band who entertained us on the previous night. Julie and I again hosted the presentation while Denise (club Secretary) took pictures (coming soon). Our CHACC vice president, John Embleton, thanked everyone who had put in an effort to make this weekend great, including all the attendees. Thank you too John .

In the absence of a Combined Council representative, Richard Egglesfield who is an ex-secretary for the Combined Council and from the Bayside Vehicle Restorers Club (BVRC), happily volunteered to present the trophies on their behalf. It should also be mentioned that Richard's club, BVRC, will be hosting this rally in 2008, and if their enthusiasm is anything to go by, you can bet that it will be a fantastic weekend as well. Further information from BVAC will be forwarded to CHACC and will be raised during our monthly meetings. If you would prefer to contact Richard & Margaret directly, please see me and I will provide you with their contact details.

Monday proved to be another glorious day. We motored away on a poker run, where each car received a different card at a series of check points to total five cards per car. Once we reached our destination the holder of the best poker hand was determined and deemed the winner of the rally.

Our destination was the Caboolture Aero Club where we had organised a static display of our cars and historic motorcycles brought along by Ulysses Club members. There was free entry into the war plane museum for attendees, fly overs, parachutists and aircraft displays. Quite a lot of public also turned out to see all this impressive machinery in one place and everyone enjoyed showing off their pride and joy to all those interested.

I earnestly congratulate CHACC members for hosting a wonderful event that will be remembered by all attendees. A big thank you to all those who volunteered in any way, big or small, throughout the course of the rally. Without you guys, our smoothly organised weekend could have been a shambles in practice.

Last but not least, a very big thank you to the Rally Organising Committee who have had regular meetings for over a year, canvassed for sponsors, tried to knock down walls to promote the event and too much else to list here; you did a magnificent and tireless job.
